About Us
Why support the ACEER?
Rainforests
are essential for life on Earth. We literally cannot live
without them. They provide fresh water, clean air, climate
regulation, food, materials, and medicines. They are the most
biologically diverse of all terrestrial ecosystems. However
the permanent loss of Amazonian rainforest is estimated by
scientists to be 4% per year. Education and research hold
the key to effective sustainable use and conservation of this
globally significant ecosystem.
The ACEER has touched the lives of nearly one million individuals
worldwide since 1991. These include 10,000 visitors to our
Amazon Center such as university students, researchers, citizens,
and governmental policy makers; 19,000 Peruvian school children;
1400 Peruvian teachers; and over 900,000 school children and
teachers in the US, Latin America and Europe. Scientists at
ACEER have discovered new species of plants and animals, and
new, commercially introduced medicines.
